The game features two teams coming off extremely successful seasons, both ranked in the top 15 in the California Community College Football Poll for Southern California. Mt. San Jacinto College representing the Foothill Conference completed an 8-2 campaign, earning Southern California's 11th place ranking and a match-up with the 12th ranked Saddleback College Gouchos. Saddleback College, representing the Orange Empire Conference, finished 6-4 on the season.
