More Than 1,000 U.S. Bancorp Volunteers to Paint 33 Twin Cities Area Homes with ``A Brush With Kindness''

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug 10, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- More than 1,000 U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) employees, family and friends will paint 33 Twin Cities area homes as part of the annual summer event "A Brush With Kindness," a program of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. Volunteer crews will paint homes on Saturday, August 13, from 8 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m.

This is the sixth year U.S. Bancorp employees have volunteered to help out neighborhoods through this special program. More than 120 homes have been painted by the company's employee volunteers through this program over the past five years. U.S. Bancorp has the most corporate volunteers for this year's "A Brush With Kindness."

"U.S. Bancorp employees volunteering for this great project come from many areas of the bank, so it really is a team effort," said Richard Davis, president and chief operating officer for U.S. Bancorp. "This partnership with Habitat for Humanity has meant a lot to the company and employees, and helps us meet the needs of the communities where we live and work."

"This is the sixth summer that U.S. Bancorp has stepped up to the plate and helped make some of the homes in the neighborhoods look really good and well-kept. The quality of the work they do is outstanding, and the homeowners have expressed their appreciation to me," said Pat Lund, manager of "A Brush With Kindness."

"A Brush With Kindness," a special program of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, is a volunteer program that transforms neighborhoods by assisting qualifying low-income homeowners in their efforts to live independently and securely in their homes. It works in cooperation with neighborhood associations, churches and businesses to target specific blocks that can most benefit from a concentrated effort to beautify and improve the quality of the homes. Volunteer crews "adopt" specific homes where they do exterior painting, landscaping and make minor exterior repairs. Many homeowners work alongside the volunteer crews.
