Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak Promotes Summer Jobs, Welcomes STEP UP Interns at U.S. Bank Tuesday, June 14

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2005--Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak will visit U.S. Bank on Tuesday, June 14 to welcome interns from Minneapolis high schools who are starting their summer jobs at U.S. Bank as part of the STEP UP Summer Jobs program. He will be on the 20th floor of U.S. Bank Plaza, 200 S. Sixth Street, Minneapolis on Tuesday, June 14 at 12:15 p.m.

There are 15 high school students working at U.S. Bank during the summer of 2005, five of whom will be on hand to meet the mayor during his visit to U.S. Bank Plaza. They are: Taleisha Duncan, Takeisha Duncan, Melody Boyd, Ashlee Irwin and Keng Thao. They will be working full-time at U.S. Bank in account reconciliation, telephone support and computer support areas.

"Minneapolis is working this summer," said Rybak. "Through the city's Summer Youth Employment Training Program, STEP UP and other programs, more than a thousand Minneapolis students and youth will be reporting for work. The city is lucky to have partners in the community like U.S. Bank, General Mills and Allina who are making the dream of a summer job a reality for so many of our kids."

Rybak is promoting his summer jobs initiatives and the city's Close the Gap campaign by congratulating the interns at U.S. Bank on their first day of work. He will also get a demonstration of some of the technology the students will be using this summer.

We admire his vision and appreciate his leadership promoting economic development for our great city," said Richard Davis, president and chief operating officer of U.S. Bancorp and STEP UP Summer Jobs Co-Chair. "The students who work at U.S. Bank through the STEP UP program and other summer internships have been wonderfully talented additions to the U.S. Bank family. We're proud to have them on the team."

STEP UP is operated by Achieve!Minneapolis. More than 70 Minneapolis employers are providing 300 youths with jobs which pay on average between $6 and $11 per hour, 20-40 hours a week for 10 weeks. Other STEP UP employers include the Star Tribune, Children's Theatre and University of Minnesota.

The Summer Youth Employment and Training Program is operated by the City of Minneapolis. This summer, more than 700 youth will have jobs that pay at least $5.15 per hour, 30 hours per week for nine weeks. Jobs available include landscaping, web page designing and tutoring. The city is also working with 40 youth identified by probation officers in North Minneapolis.
