U.S. Bank Branches Official Dropoff Sites for Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2005--People who want to be a helpful neighbor and join the fight against hunger in Minnesota have the opportunity to do so this March when U.S. Bank branches across the state become community collection sites for cash and food donations for local food shelves. The 2005 Minnesota FoodShare campaign, titled "Neighbors Helping Neighbors: It's the Minnesota Way," runs from March 1 through March 31.

"Since 2001, food shelf use has increased 40 percent statewide," said Sue Kainz, campaign coordinator for the March Minnesota FoodShare campaign. "This year, most food shelves in Minnesota are reporting large increases in the number of clients; nearly half are children and 22 percent are senior citizens. People who want to help out can conveniently drop off a cash or food donation at their local U.S. Bank branch."

"Minnesota FoodShare provides a greatly needed service to many people in Minnesota," said Richard Davis, president and chief operating officer of U.S. Bancorp. "Donations made at U.S. Bank branches will remain in the community to support the food shelves in that area. We encourage everyone who can afford to make a cash or food donation to do so."

Minnesota FoodShare, a program of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, directs the March Campaign, the largest food and cash drive in the state. This campaign in 2005 will help restock more than 265 food shelves across Minnesota. Half of all the groceries distributed at Minnesota's food shelves each year come from the March Campaign.
