Minnesota High Schools Get Ready for Another Year of Back 2 Schools Awards for Teachers and Students

MINNEAPOLIS, Sep 22, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB)

U.S. Bank is continuing its support of Minnesota students, teachers and schools with U.S. Bank Back 2 Schools, a program that recognizes outstanding accomplishments in education, arts, extracurricular activities and athletics.

Minnesota high schools will receive Back 2 Schools information for the 2004-05 year the week of Sept. 20. The packets explain how to apply for funding for teacher projects and nominate students for awards or athletic recognition. The deadline for the first round is Nov. 1, 2004.

There are three U.S. Bank Back 2 Schools programs - The U.S. Bank Teacher's Edition, Five Star Honor Roll and Prep Athlete of the Week. Application forms are available on the Internet at www.usbank.com/back2schools.

The U.S. Bank Teachers Edition

The U.S. Bank Teacher's Edition will fund between 50-75 programs at $500-1,000 each to teachers in U.S. Bank markets in Minnesota. Winning projects will be those designed to enhance learning in the classroom with creative, one-time projects such as a small business student workshop or a television production project.

Five Star Student Honor Roll

The Five Star Student Honor Roll recognizes students who excel in the academics, arts, community service, student leadership and those who overcome challenges. Local school faculty, staff and students may nominate individuals for this award, which will be announced in December, March and May. Approximately 100 students will receive an award of $250 deposited into a U.S. Bank student checking or savings account, a certificate and special recognition in their community. Two of the year's winners will also be selected to receive $10,000 scholarships from U.S. Bank.

Prep Athletes of the Week

U.S. Bank will sponsor KARE-11 TV's "Athletes of the Week" segment, which airs each Monday night during the 10 p.m. news program for 35 weeks during the school year. Each Monday night during the school year two athletes will be recognized for their accomplishments. Those not in the KARE-11 TV viewing area will also be recognized by U.S. Bank. Honorees will receive a certificate and $250 for their school's athletic programs and other activities.

U.S. Bank introduced Back 2 Schools in 2003 and awarded more than $123,000 to students, teachers and athletes during the school year, including two $10,000 student scholarships.
