Zoological Society of Milwaukee Capital Campaign Soars to New Heights as Live Hawk Delivers $2.5 Million Donation from U.S. Bank

MILWAUKEE, Wisc., Oct 22, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- A live hawk will soar through the air with a $2.5 million check on Wednesday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee Zoo Peck Welcome Center from U.S. Bank Wisconsin president Jay Williams to Milwaukee Zoological Society president Gil Boese. The financial donation will assist the New Zoo II Capital Campaign to improve the Zoo.

Specifically, this gift will go toward a light-filled pedestrian atrium entrance to the Zoo, to be called the Gathering Place. The glass-topped atrium will have a rustic, North Woods feel, including animal sculptures and small trees/plants indoors. The space will include an aquarium, an expanded restaurant with a variety of menu items, and an international gift bazaar. The $30 million campaign is being conducted by the public-private partnership of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County. The ceremony also will include a bald eagle, and will take place in the Peck Welcome Center at the Zoo.

U.S. Bank, through its 150-year history in Wisconsin, has been a longtime supporter of the Zoological Society and the Zoo. In winter 2003, for example, the bank sponsored a touring exhibit at the Zoo on crocodiles and alligators. In winter 2004, the bank also will present the winter touring exhibit at the Zoo, called DOGS: Wolf, Myth, Hero & Friend. John Howard, U.S. Bank executive vice president of corporate banking, is a long-time Zoological Society board member.
