Minnesota High Schools Receive U.S. Bank Back 2 Schools Packets This Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Sep 9, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- As Minnesota high schools kick into high gear for the 2003-2004 school year, principals will receive information packets about how their schools, teachers and students can benefit from the new U.S. Bank Back 2 Schools program.

The packets, which arrive in schools this week (Sept. 8-12), explain how to apply for funding for teacher projects and nominate students for scholarships or athletic recognition. There are three U.S. Bank Back 2 Schools programs - The U.S. Bank Teacher's Edition, Five Star Honor Roll and Prep Athlete of the Week. Application forms are available on the Internet at www.usbank.com/back2schools or at any of the 130 U.S. Bank branches in Minnesota. All student winners will be honored at the U.S. Bank Back 2 Schools banquet in May.

The U.S. Bank Teachers Edition

The U.S. Bank Teacher's Edition will fund between 50-75 programs at $500-1,000 each to teachers in U.S. Bank markets in Minnesota. Winning projects will be those designed to enhance learning in the classroom with creative, one-time projects such as a small business student workshop or a television production project. A committee of U.S. Bank branch managers and educators from across the state will review proposals and award the grants once in December and again in April.

Five Star Student Honor Roll

The Five Star Student Honor Roll recognizes students who excel in the academics, arts, community service, student leadership and those who overcome challenges. Local school faculty, staff and students may nominate individuals for this award, which will be announced in December, April and May. Approximately 150 students will receive a scholarship award of $250 deposited into a U.S. Bank Student Checking account, a certificate and special recognition in their community. Two of the year's winners will also be selected to receive $10,000 scholarships from U.S. Bank.

Prep Athletes of the Week

U.S. Bank will sponsor KARE-11 TV's "Athletes of the Week" segment, which airs each Monday night during the 10 p.m. news program for 35 weeks during the school year. Each Monday night during the school year a male and female student athlete will be recognized for their accomplishments. Those not in the KARE-TV viewing area will be recognized in their local newspaper. Honorees will receive a certificate and a grant of $250 to their school's athletic programs and other activities.
