U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray Expands Technology Research Platform

Brian Gesuale Promoted to Senior Research Analyst Covering the Defense Electronics and Homeland Security Sectors

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray (Piper Jaffray) is pleased to announce the expansion of its technology research platform to include the defense electronics and homeland security sectors. The sectors will be covered by Brian Gesuale, who has been promoted to vice president and senior research analyst after spending the past four years as a research analyst in technology and business services. He is based in the firm's Minneapolis headquarters.

"Defense electronics and homeland security have received much greater attention and funding as a result of our current political situation," said Robert Peterson, head of Investment Research at Piper Jaffray. "We believe this sector is a good fit for us as we continue to expand our research platform in areas of growth, investment, investor interest, and where we believe we can make a difference."

Piper Jaffray's technology research platform already encompasses the following sectors:

    -- Analog/Mixed Signal Semiconductors
-- Data Networking & Wireline Telecom
-- Enterprise Computing & Storage, Semiconductors
    -- Internet Media & Marketing
    -- Learning Services
    -- Semiconductor Capital Equipment
    -- Software Applications
    -- Software Infrastructure
    -- Software Security & Design
    -- Technology & Business Services
    -- Wireless Communications Equipment

"Given his proven abilities as a research analyst along with his extensive experience within the defense industry, we believe Brian has the insight and skills to provide investors with information necessary to make smart investing decisions," said Peterson.

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, Gesuale led a transcontinental development team that created the Air Force's first family of self-sufficient commercial satellite imagery systems, Eagle Vision, for the U.S. Air Force's Headquarters Office of Modeling and Simulation at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Before that, he was a program manager at the U.S. Air Force's Electronic Systems Center for the B-2 Stealth Bomber's Mission Planning System, based at Hanscom AFB in Bedford, Mass.

"I look forward to adding a new vertical area of coverage expertise to an already strong Piper Jaffray technology research platform," said Gesuale. "I believe investors will find our pending coverage launch very timely, given increased geopolitical instability and growing federal investments for new high-technology systems."

Gesuale has a bachelor of science degree in economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and a master's degree in finance from Bentley College in Waltham, Mass.
