The `Q' to Turn into `Field of Dreams' for 80 Kids; U.S. Bank to Bring America's Pastime to San Diego Youth

SAN DIEGO, Aug 6, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Eighty kids from San Diego County ages six to 14 will converge on Qualcomm Stadium for an hour of on-field instruction from the San Diego Padres Coaches on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The kids earned the opportunity as part of a contest at U.S. Bank.

The kids registered to win a spot in the clinic between June 9 and July 18 at 25 U.S. Bank branches around San Diego County. From Temecula to Chula Vista, hundreds of entries were collected and 80 lucky winners were selected to come down to the "Q" for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The kids will receive tips in all facets of the game, including hitting, fielding, pitching and running the bases from San Diego Padres first-base coach Davey Lopes, bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds, hitting instructor Dave Magadan, pitching coach Darren Balsley, third-base coach Rob Picciolo and bench coach Tony Muser. Following the on-field instruction, the kids will enjoy a lunch on the field courtesy of the San Diego Padres. Each aspiring ball player will also leave the clinic with a U.S. Bank Junior Padres T-shirt and two tickets to that night's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

This is the seventh U.S. Bank/Padres Coaches Clinic that U.S. Bank is hosting as part of its three-year title sponsorship of the U.S. Bank Junior Padres Kids Club.

"Throughout the country and in San Diego, U.S. Bank is committed to supporting the children of the communities where we operate. We are ecstatic at the opportunity to host kids from all around San Diego this weekend and provide them one last chance to get on the field at Qualcomm Stadium before the Padres move downtown," said Robert Armstrong, market president for U.S. Bank in San Diego.
