U.S. Bancorp Foundation Awards Grants to 18 Bay Area Organizations

SAN FRANCISCO, Jul 30, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Eighteen San Francisco Bay Area groups recently received grants from U.S. Bank through the U.S. Bancorp Foundation in an amount totaling $154,500.

    The organizations include:

    --  The Garden Project in San Francisco, which offers prisoners
        and parolees the opportunity to develop job skills through
        landscaping and growing plants in a wholesale nursery;

    --  Habitat for Humanity in Peninsula in which U.S. Bank is
        sponsoring a quarter build of a home in the south San
        Francisco area;

    --  Junior Achievement of the Bay Area in San Francisco, where
        funds will be directed to the underserved community of
        Bayview/Hunters' Point;

    --  Children's Council of San Francisco;

    --  Shelter of Contra Costa County;

    --  Chinatown CDC;

    --  Davis Street Community Center for the administration of their
        Individual Development Account (IDA) program (an IDA is opened
        in connection with a nonprofit organization for first-time
        homeownership, small business or education and grants are used
        to match the savings of the individual sometimes up to three
        times what the person has saved);

    --  East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation also for their
        IDA program;

    --  Fremont Symphony Orchestra;

    --  Girl Source in San Francisco;

    --  Businesses United in Investing, Lending and Development in
        Menlo Park;

    --  Kmhmu Catholic Community in Berkeley, which serves a Laotian
        community in San Leandro;

    --  The Machen Center in San Francisco;

    --  Marin Symphony Orchestra in San Rafael;

    --  Boys and Girls Club of San Leandro;

    --  Yerba Buena Center for the Arts;

    --  Contra Costa Interfaith Sponsoring Committee to advocate for
        affordable housing; and

    --  Peoples Community Credit Union is in Oakland.
