Twenty-Seven Homes in Minneapolis & St. Paul Neighborhoods to Receive ``A Brush with Kindness''

MINNEAPOLIS, Jul 29, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Twenty-seven homes in Minneapolis and St. Paul will get a facelift when more than 700 U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) employee volunteers participate in the annual summer event A Brush With Kindness. Volunteer crews will paint homes on Saturday, August 9, from 8 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m.

Volunteers will "adopt" the homes by painting them and making minor repairs for low-income homeowners. This is the fifth year U.S. Bancorp employees have volunteered to help out neighborhoods through this special program. U.S. Bancorp has the most corporate volunteers and teams for this year's A Brush With Kindness.

"We're looking forward to painting homes again this year," said Richard Davis, vice chairman, commercial and consumer banking, U.S. Bancorp. "This partnership with Habitat for Humanity helps us meet the needs of the communities where we live and work."

"The neighborhoods look so much better after 'A Brush With Kindness,'" said Pat Lund, manager of A Brush With Kindness. "So far, more than 52 homes have been painted by U.S. Bancorp employee volunteers through this program in the past four years."

A Brush With Kindness, a special program of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, is a volunteer program that transforms neighborhoods by assisting qualifying low-income homeowners in their efforts to live independently and securely in their homes. It works in cooperation with neighborhood associations, churches and businesses to target specific blocks that can most benefit from a concentrated effort to beautify and improve the quality of the homes. Volunteer crews "adopt" specific homes where they do exterior painting, landscaping and make minor exterior repairs. Homeowners work alongside the volunteer crews.
