Tis the Season to be Calling! U.S. Bancorp's December Business Blitz a Major Success

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec 20, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- While December may seem like the perfect time for businesses to slow down and take it easy, U.S. Bank is doing just the opposite and has picked up the pace as the year comes to an end. On Thursday, December 12, U.S. Bank representatives took to the streets and phones and contacted 183,235 customers or potential customers and netted more than $30 million worth of new business. This was more than a chance just to wish everyone happy holidays; instead, U.S. Bank was busy thanking people for their business and asking how they might be of additional service. This business blitz was also an opportunity to showcase U.S. Bancorp's products and services and attract new customers.

Richard Davis, vice chairman of U.S. Bancorp, commented, "We want our customers to know that they are important to us. Our business blitz was an opportunity for us to say `thank you' to thousands of customers either face-to-face or via a personal call. It was a chance for us to talk about our commitment to customer service and see if there were additional ways for us to help people with their banking needs. We called on large corporations, small businesses and retail customers. As a result of our efforts we now have thousands of new customers."

The U.S. Bancorp business blitz involved representatives from all lines of business in major metro markets and small towns across the organizations 24 state geographic footprint. The one day calling effort included representatives of middle market and large corporate banking, commercial banking, treasury management, trust, small business banking, private client group, asset management, community and metro banks, investments, insurance, corporate payment services, card services, consumer lending, mortgage, NOVA Information Systems, Inc., U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray and others.

"We had a goal of trying to meet with 80,000 customers or potential customers," Davis noted. "I am proud to report that we topped that mark by more than doubling our expected calling efforts which resulted in 183,235 sales calls or 129 percent above our target. Some of the highlights of the blitz were 79,277 sales calls by our consumer banking division, 68,156 sales calls by our combined metro and community banking branch representatives and 8,648 sales calls by our private client group and asset management division and 8,508 sales calls by our middle market and large corporate calling officers."

The U.S. Bancorp business blitz included customers in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

The calling blitz was timed to help customers address financial needs as the year winds down and to help others get a jump on the new year. The one-day calling blitz was also an opportunity to showcase U.S. Bancorp's Five Star Service Guarantee, which guarantees customers key banking benefits in all lines of business or the bank will pay customers if it fails to deliver.
