If you think the world-class athletes running the 5th annual
Suzuki Rock `n' Roll Marathon will be the only athletes filling the
streets of San Diego early Sunday morning, think again!
More than 1,100 high school cheerleaders will also line the
roadways as they root on the runners and compete for the $1,000 first
place prize in the U.S. Bank Spirit on the Course competition.
U.S. Bank Spirit on the Course, an annual tradition in America's
Finest City, will feature 31 local high school teams competing for one
of the largest cheerleading prizes in California.

on the Course has become as integral a part of the marathon as the
music, and the runners always let us know how important it is to have

Escondido High School won last year's contest, taking home $1,000
and an opportunity to host a free cheerleading clinic last March.
Escondido will attempt to defend its title this year, but will face
stiff competition from 30 other San Diego high school teams that would
love to win $1,000 for their program and host next year's clinic.
We know it will not be an easy title to defend, said Bonnie
Sparapani, Escondido High School cheer director.
Every school is
focused on the U.S. Bank Spirit on the Course as the most prestigious
competition in San Diego.
