U.S. Bank Launches Banking App for iPad

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May. 22, 2012-- U.S. Bank has released a new banking application that is designed specifically for iPad users. It is currently available for download in the iTunes store.

“The new U.S. Bank app for iPad comes with all of the mobile banking features that customers have come to appreciate, with the enhanced benefit of being optimized for the tablet’s larger screen,” said Niti Badarinath, senior vice president and head of mobile banking at U.S. Bank. “For example, when searching for the nearest branch, customers can now see a map side by side with text that lists hours and a phone number.”

Customers can deposit checks using the iPad’s camera, just as they can in the iPhone and Android apps, in addition to making person-to-person payments, viewing account balances and transactions, paying bills, making payments to other U.S. Bank accounts such as their mortgage and car loans, and reviewing rewards information. The iPad app was created in partnership with Fiserv using its Mobiliti platform.

“This is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide new and innovative ways for our customers to access and manage their finances at U.S. Bank,” Badarinath said.

U.S. Bank has been at the forefront of innovation in mobile banking and mobile payments. It was among the first to offer customers a mobile check deposit feature in its mobile banking app in March 2011. Last fall, U.S. Bank was the first in the industry to launch a credit card iPhone app for select retail partners that allows customers to apply for and receive on-the-spot credit to make immediate in-store purchases. An iPad app developed for retail partner employees to use when talking to customers launched in March. In addition to its banking and payment features, U.S. Bank also offers mobile apps for its prepaid cards including its ReliaCard, AccelaPay and Health Savings Account (HSA) services.

This spring, the company also introduced a pilot of Find US+, an app designed to overlay street view branch and ATM information using the iPhone’s camera feature. It also provided readers of the U.S. Bancorp Annual Report and U.S. Bancorp Corporate Citizenship Report with enhanced content, such as video or additional information, accessed by scanning the photo with their iPhone using the Digimarc app. It was the first company in the nation to enhance corporate reports with this mobile technology.

U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB), with $341 billion in assets as of March 31, 2012, is the parent company of U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States. The company operates 3,080 banking offices in 25 states and 5,061 ATMs and provides a comprehensive line of banking, brokerage, insurance, investment, mortgage, trust and payment services products to consumers, businesses and institutions. U.S. Bancorp and its employees are dedicated to improving the communities they serve, for which the company earned the 2011 Spirit of America Award, the highest honor bestowed on a company by United Way.
