U.S. Bank On Board the Midwest StartUp Bus

Passengers Come Together to Create New Technology Start Up Companies in 72 Hours

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 6, 2012-- The Midwest leg of the StartUp Bus begins today, with 30 Ohio entrepreneurs meeting for the first time with the mission of conceiving, building and launching technology-oriented start-up businesses in 72 hours as they head to the South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas, March 9-11. Groups throughout the country are competing on 10 wifi-enabled buses, with the top ideas presented to venture capitalists once they get to Austin. A representative of U.S. Bank, lead bank of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB), will be on board the Midwest bus and will send out updates on facebook.com/usbank as well as Twitter.com/usbank and YouTube.com/usbank.

U.S. Bank is co-sponsoring the Midwest leg with high energy individuals on board who have backgrounds in coding, web development, marketing and business development. All competed to be on the journey, with the Midwest bus leaving from Tech Columbus on March 6 at 6 a.m., and making stops along the way. Among the scheduled bus stops will be March 6 in Cincinnati between 5 - 7 p.m. at the Brandery, a seed stage consumer marketing venture accelerator. The “buspreneurs” also will be at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center on March 7 between 8 - 10 a.m.

A caravan of other StartUp Buses join at selected stops, all eventually arriving in Austin from cities including New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Baton Rouge, Mexico City and Columbus/Cincinnati. Each will have formed five to six teams who come together to do everything from brainstorming concepts to polishing pitches, creating prototypes and launching websites. They will feature their ideas on the website startupbus.com, competing for votes in a stock market type game and vying for the opportunity to showcase their ideas for seed money once they arrive in Austin.

Other sponsors of the Midwest leg include Hyland Software in Cleveland, CincyTech, a venture capital company, the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Cincinnati Venture Association.
