U.S. Bank's "Just US Kids" Program Teaches Smart Saving Habits to 10,000 Children and Counting

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 2008--U.S. Bank has opened its 10,000th "Just US Kids" savings account, at U.S. Bank's Fairview Heights, Ill., office. To mark this milestone, U.S. Bank is making a $5,000 donation to Junior Achievement of Mississippi Valley, a St. Louis-area nonprofit dedicated to educating young people about financial literacy.

Just US Kids is a U.S. Bank savings program designed specifically for children that features special incentives for young people to learn about the benefits of saving for long-term goals, saving for short-term goals and having money set aside to give to others. It includes a variety of kid-friendly resources and activities, as well as a parents' guide with tips on how to educate their children about money, spending and saving.

"The earlier in life people establish good savings habits, the more likely they are to make saving a permanent part of their lifestyle," said Rick Hartnack, vice chairman of consumer banking at U.S. Bank. "We're very proud to have reached 10,000 young people with this important message through Just US Kids, and we look forward to continuing to help even more kids become smart savers in the years to come."

In addition to offering the Just US Kids savings account, select U.S. Bank branches are equipped with a Just US Kids Zone, a portion of the branch lobby designed to make visits to the bank more enjoyable for U.S. Bank's youngest customers.

Just US Kids savings accounts are available in U.S. Bank's PowerBank markets, where the company is making significant investments in its retail branches: St. Louis, Oregon, Minnesota and Colorado. The Just US Kids program was launched in 2006 in St. Louis, followed by Oregon in 2007, and it was introduced in Minnesota and Colorado in April of 2008.
