American Way, the inflight magazine of American Airlines and American Eagle®, was honored with two First Place and two Second Place awards. They included First Place in Best Feature Article for the Sept. 15, 2011 feature titled "The Fight of Their Lives." The May 1, 2011 feature article, "Stogie King," won the First Place award in the Best Feature Design category. Second Place for Best Use of Photography was "Disappearing Delis," from the July 1, 2011 issue. Also winning Second Place was the themed Sept. 1, 2011 golf issue in the Best Special Topic Issue category.
Celebrated Living, the First and Business Class magazine of American Airlines and American Eagle, won Second Place in the Best Transportation Publication category for the May 15, 2011 Platinum List issue which features readers' choices for the best hotels, golf courses, spas and cruise lines.
In addition, American Way won two awards at the prestigious international APEX Awards Competition. In its 24th year, the annual competition for writers, editors, publications staff, and business, nonprofit, agency and freelance communicators, presents awards for publication excellence. American Way captured a First Place Award of Excellence for the June 15, 2011 issue featuring Richmond, Va. American Way also won one of only four Grand Awards given for writing, for the "Americana" back-page column, written by Carlton Stowers.
