Tech Data to Offer VARs Industry-Leading VMware Virtualization Solutions

Tech Data's Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Division Enables VARs to Deploy More Cost-Effective, Environmentally Friendly and Easily Managed Data Centers

CLEARWATER, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2008--The Advanced Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) Division of Tech Data Corporation (NASDAQ:TECD) today capped off a year of building one of the channel's most robust data center solutions offerings by announcing a distribution agreement with VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the data center. Through AIS, Tech Data continues to lead in supporting value-added resellers (VARs) implementing virtualization solutions to enhance IT operations for end users ranging from small businesses to large enterprises.

"Virtualization is doing much more than transforming data centers through server consolidation," said Senior Vice President and General Manager, Advanced Infrastructure Solutions, Pete Peterson. "The applications for virtualization extend way beyond the data center, providing VARs and their end-user customers with significant opportunities to implement more efficient and cost-effective IT strategies. From secure application access through thin client and blade PC solutions to enhanced data protection and business continuity, VARs and their CIO customers need to understand the far-reaching benefits of implementing virtualization solutions like those from VMware."

The addition of the entire VMware product suite solidifies Tech Data as the leader in the channel for virtualization solutions. Tech Data provides VARs with access to a broad array of virtualization solutions backed by trained sales and technical support. The distributor has trained more than 200 inside and field sales representatives, product managers and systems engineers, who are either certified VMware Sales Professionals (VSPs) or VMware Certified Professionals (VCPs). The company plans to more than double the number of VSPs and VCPs as it trains additional resources in the coming months.

"Tech Data is clearly committed to supporting VMware and our VARs," said Steve Houck, vice president, worldwide channels, VMware. "Tech Data, through its AIS Division, has established itself as a strong partner for VARs by adding VMware virtualization solutions to its offerings. VARs that are well trained on our products and solutions and armed with the right sales and marketing tools are critical to providing their customers with VMware virtualization. Our relationship with Tech Data will enable us to engage, recruit and train top VARs throughout North America."

Tech Data already has extensive experience supporting VMware VARs through partnerships with HP and IBM to distribute servers configured with VMware virtualization software. Today's announcement enables Tech Data to distribute VMware's entire line of solutions for desktop and data center virtualization, including the VMware Infrastructure suite, VMware VirtualCenter, VMware Capacity Planner, VMware Lab Manager, VMware Workstation, VMware ACE, VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and VMware Fusion.
