Orlando Ashford Selected as Honoree in Governance Professionals and Institutions Category

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 20, 2013-- Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC), a global professional services firm offering advice and solutions in risk, strategy, and human capital, today announced that Vice Chairman David Nadler will be inducted into The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Directorship 100 Corporate Governance Hall of Fame. This year also marks Dr. Nadler's fifth consecutive inclusion in the NACD Directorship 100, a list of the most influential leaders in the boardroom and corporate governance community.

The NACD is a 13,000-member organization that focuses on director education, director training, and research about boardroom and corporate governance practices. The organization created the NACD Directorship 100 Corporate Governance Hall of Fame in 2008.

Dr. Nadler joined Marsh & McLennan Companies in 2000, when Delta Consulting Group, the company he founded, was acquired by Marsh & McLennan Companies. He was CEO of Mercer Delta Consulting until 2005. Dr. Nadler is well known for his research and writing on organizational change, corporate governance, organization design, and executive teams. He has written numerous articles and book chapters on these topics and has authored and/or edited 16 books as well. In 2004, Dr. Nadler co-chaired the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Blue Ribbon Commission on Board Leadership, and in 2009 was a member of the NACD Blue Ribbon Commission on Risk and Governance.

The NACD Directorship 100 also recognizes 100 leading corporate directors and governance advocates in several categories, including academics, attorneys, board advisors, compensation experts, investors, recruiters, and regulators. Orlando D. Ashford, president of the Talent business segment at Mercer, a global leader in talent, health, retirement, and investment consulting, and a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, has been selected for the first time as an honoree in the Governance Professionals and Institutions category. Prior to his current position, Mr. Ashford led Mercer's Leadership & Organization Performance practice. He has also served as a member of the NACD's 2012 and 2013 Blue Ribbon Commissions, which convene board members and leading issue experts to study a critical area of board practice each year. The 2012 report provided action steps to advance diversity in the board room and the 2013 report is focused on defining the board's role in talent development.

Commenting on Dr. Nadler's and Mr. Ashford's achievements, Marsh & McLennan Companies President and CEO Dan Glaser said: "David's inclusion in the NACD Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor. Our Company has benefited greatly from David's expertise in corporate and board governance as have many other firms over the course of his career. We are also very pleased that Orlando has been recognized by the NACD as a role model for his work in advancing corporate governance practices."
