London, 12 June, 2013 — Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MMC) a global professional services firm offering advice and solutions in risk, strategy, and human capital, announced today that it has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard across its UK office portfolio for its ongoing commitment to reduce the Company’s carbon footprint.

Marsh & McLennan Companies’ UK network comprises the offices of its operating companies, Marsh and Mercer in over 30 UK cities, as well as its European headquarters at Tower Place, London. The Company’s UK-wide award follows the certification in 2011 of five UK offices.

Carbon Trust Standard bearers are required to recertify every two years to ensure a continuing reduction in their environmental impact. Among the initiatives undertaken by Marsh & McLennan Companies to achieve UK-wide accreditation are the procurement of 100% green energy; the rationalisation of office equipment and adoption of multifunctional devices, reducing the device to people ratio from 1:4 to 1:25 in some offices; and a decarbonisation strategy at Tower Place which has resulted in a 28.5% reduction in carbon emissions per capita since its original build in 2003.
