NEW YORK, July 5, 2007 — Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC) today issued a statement congratulating Richard J. Sullivan on the U.S. Senate confirmation of his nomination to serve as a district judge on the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Sullivan currently serves as general counsel for Marsh Inc., MMC's risk and insurance advisors, as well as deputy general counsel for MMC. The U.S. Senate confirmed his nomination on a vote of 99-0 last week.

Mr. Sullivan joined MMC as deputy general counsel for litigation in July 2005 after 11 years of distinguished service with the United States Attorney's Office in Manhattan. He was named general counsel of Marsh Inc in June 2006.
As a federal prosecutor, he directed and supervised dozens of investigations and tried numerous cases to verdict. In 2003, the City Bar Association honored Sullivan with the Henry L. Stimson Medal as the outstanding prosecutor in the Southern District of New York. Prior to joining the United States Attorney's Office, Sullivan worked as an associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he specialized in securities litigation and internal investigations. A graduate of Yale Law School and the College of William & Mary, he also served as a law clerk to the Honorable David M. Ebel on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
