Guard to Visit Cummins Plants to Learn More About Company

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) will host more than 60 members of the Indiana National Guard on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, for a day of tours and presentations on the Company’s products and processes as well as employment opportunities at Cummins.

“What started off as a casual conversation between two friends about the Guard’s involvement with our products grew into something much, much bigger,” said Jeff McKinney, HR Operations Excellence Leader. McKinney helped organize the day.

McKinney was talking with Captain Todd Bowers, Indiana National Guard Maintenance Officer, when Bowers said the Guard uses Cummins products in maintaining and repairing its vehicles.

Over the course of their conversation, they realized both organizations use Six Sigma, the business problem-solving tool. And they also discussed the establishment of an employee resource group at Cummins to help recruit and retain veterans at the Company.

All of those elements will be part of the activities during the Guard visit. The day will include tours of the Columbus MidRange Engine Plant (CMEP) and the Seymour Engine Plant as well as presentations on Six Sigma and career opportunities not only at Cummins but at Cummins Crosspoint, a distributor of Cummins products based in Indianapolis. In addition, Guard members will be honored at an early Veterans Day celebration at CMEP.

The day starts with a tour at 9:30 a.m. at CMEP and concludes after a tour of the Seymour Engine Plant in the afternoon when the Guard members return to Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, Ind.
