OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Dec 11, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ --Embarq Corporation (NYSE: EQ) announced today that it now has one million subscribers enjoying EMBARQ(TM) High-Speed Internet (HSI) service.

EMBARQ began rolling out high-speed Internet services in 1999. Today, nearly 77% of EMBARQ's consumer and business access lines are HSI capable and that number will continue to grow.

Giving Back to the Communities

In honor of having one million HSI subscribers, EMBARQ is donating one year of HSI service to 24 non-profit organizations located within the company's 18-state service territory. This donation can be used by the various agencies to better serve their local community.

Offering Common Sense Solutions

This year the company has been adding new HSI subscribers at a rapid pace. At the end of the third quarter this year, EMBARQ had 46% more subscribers than it did at the end of the third quarter in 2005. The company offers common sense, high-speed Internet pricing that doesn't change for as long as the customer has the service. EMBARQ also allows residential and business customers to pay for only the speeds that they need -- either up to 1.5 mbps, 3.0 mbps or 5.0 mbps. EMBARQ plans to launch high-speed Internet with increased upload and download speeds, with up to 10 mbps download speeds available in selected markets.

In addition, the company began offering its HSI subscribers 25 gigabytes of online storage space free of charge through EMBARQ(TM) Media Safe(SM). This service allows residential high-speed Internet customers to easily access, share, organize, back-up and store all of their computer files and data online.
