ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 7, 2012--
Georgia Gulf Corporation (NYSE: GGC) today announced that it is
partnering with InPro Corporation to support that company’s corporate
sustainability goals. InPro is a manufacturer of door and wall
protection, washroom systems and commercial surfaces, expansion joint
systems, cubicle track and privacy curtains, and signage.
Georgia Gulf has developed rigid and flexible vinyl compound products
that are non-phthalate and heavy metal-free, which meet InPro’s
environmental requirements. The flexible compounds also meet the
standards for the USDA bio-preferred label, meaning that more than 25
percent of the vinyl product is made from renewable resources. In
addition, many of the sustainable products developed by Georgia Gulf
adhere to indoor-air standards developed by the GREENGUARD Environmental
Institute, which include the most stringent test for low emissions of
volatile organic compounds required for products used in office
environments and other indoor spaces.
The innovative, flexible compounds supplied by Georgia Gulf to InPro
incorporate a bio-based, non-phthalate plasticizer from Segetis. The
Javelin™ technology plasticizers are highly efficient and show excellent
compatibility with PVC across a wide loading range, leading to excellent
permanence and low migration. These properties, along with the
plasticizer’s low vapor pressure, are essential for InPro’s applications.
“With our thriving partnerships that focus on sustainability and an
innovative compound development team, the ability to design unique
engineered compounds to meet the environmental needs of our customers is
now a reality at Georgia Gulf,” said William H. Doherty, vice president
– PVC Compounds.
Georgia Gulf also is introducing its newest rigid vinyl compound as part
of a broader sustainability initiative, which focuses on the replacement
of heavy metal stabilization by using an organic-based stabilizer
package. This family of heavy metal-free compounds offers excellent
physical properties that are crucial to part performance in the field.
“We are very pleased with the development of bio-based engineered
compounds for PVC and we are excited to be the first in our industry to
incorporate sustainability in our PVC product offerings. Our partnership
with Georgia Gulf Corporation continues to advance our technology in
materials and manufacturing processes to provide the best sustainable
solution for our customers,” said Glenn R. Kennedy, chief operating
officer of InPro Corporation.
