Renewal Contract for ZBVs Deployed for Critical Counterterrorism Missions BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2007--American Science and Engineering, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASEI) (AS&E(R)), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today the receipt of a $3.5 million contract from the U.S. Government to provide service, maintenance, training, and spare parts for multiple Z Backscatter Vans (ZBVs) X-ray Inspection Systems deployed overseas. "The ZBV has proven to be a powerful and effective tool for fighting terrorism," said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. "AS&E's Field Service organization is committed to ensuring that the U.S. Government's fleet of ZBVs are operating in top condition for their overseas counterterrorism missions. Our Field Service technicians have received the highest rating for quality and these service renewal contracts are strong indicators of customer satisfaction with AS&E products and support." A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z(R) Backscatter(TM) Van (ZBV(TM)) is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. AS&E's highly skilled Field Service Engineers (FSEs) provide support services worldwide. Each FSE, with a technical degree in electrical and mechanical engineering or equivalent experience, is trained in the operation and repair of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanics, electrical systems, and computers. Available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, FSEs are located at AS&E offices in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. About AS&E(R) American Science and Engineering, Inc.
