Our reliance on top independent agents is a key component in reducing business risk. They understand their markets, their customers' insurance needs and the philosophies of our company. This is why we are able to retain good accounts and write a high percentage of the new property casualty business we quote for agents.

Underwriting is managed to ensure we receive the appropriate premium for the risks we accept. We underwrite to make a profit, rather than accept losses and offset them with increased cash flow from investments. This creates stability that benefits shareholders, policyholders, agents and associates.

We are careful about marketing in areas prone to catastrophe losses. However rare, major storms and earthquakes are a fact of life. In the event of a major catastrophe, reinsurance moderates our losses at specified percentages of the total amount of the damages, easing the overall financial impact on our company.

Independent agents and careful underwriting and risk management help create an ideal combination for successful operation.

We also work hard to manage expenses so that we can reward agents for their efforts. We operate from a single headquarters with no branch offices. Nearly one third of our associates work out of their homes in the same communities where our policyholders live and work.

To further reduce expenses, we offer commercial policyholders multi-year policies. This minimizes annual renewal efforts, saving time and money for Cincinnati Insurance, agents and policyholders.
