NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 2006--The New York Times
Company announced today that Robert P. Kempf has been named vice
president, product for Boston.com, effective September 18. Mr. Kempf
will lead product development and product management for Boston.com.
He will be based in Boston and will report to Michael Zimbalist, vice
president, research & development operations for The New York Times
Company.

Mr. Kempf, 52, has been vice president of interactive media for
GateHouse Media, Inc. since 2005. There he was responsible for
developing and launching the company's overall interactive strategy,
business models, platforms and organization. He conceived and
developed WickedLocal.com, an Internet model combining professionally
produced content, citizen journalism and search. Before GateHouse, Mr.
Kempf was director of Internet product development for Ottaway
Newspapers, Inc., a subsidiary of Dow Jones. Previously, he was with
CapeCodonline.com/Cape Cod Times, where he was the Internet business
development manager. Mr. Kempf started his career with the Houghton
Mifflin Company. He has been an adjunct professor at Emerson College
and at Massachusetts Communications College, both in Boston.
Mr. Kempf is the recipient of the Suburban Newspapers of America
2006 Website Innovator of the Year Award. He received a B.A. in
political science and philosophy from Boston College.
