Boston Globe Media Introduces ''Lola'' - a Boston Women's Lifestyle Magazine from a Boston Woman's Point of View

Free Monthly Publication Debuts in November 2007

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 2007--Boston Globe Media today announced the launch of "Lola," an on-the-go lifestyle magazine that brings Boston women a best friend's take on everything and anything that can make local life a little better. Designed for Boston women in their 20's, 30's or 40's, "Lola" will be full of locally relevant information with a lively mix of the practical and the impulsive.

"Lola" will be free of charge and available in 800 locations throughout greater Boston starting in mid-November 2007. Starting January 1, 2008, "Lola" will appear monthly. The compact size of the magazine will easily fit into a purse, backpack, or briefcase, so active women can fit it into their lifestyles.

"Created as a trusted friend for women, 'Lola' will be informing, entertaining and inspiring. She'll have plenty to say about local restaurants and shopping as well as healthy living, relationships, things to do and think about," said Lucy Bartholomay, managing director of product innovation, The Boston Globe. "The magazine is fun, accessible and smart, and is a resource for busy women seeking ideas, entertainment, tips and advice."

Susanne Althoff, who is the senior assistant editor of the Boston Globe Magazine, will serve as the publication's consulting editorial director. Ms. Althoff has worked for the Globe's magazine since 2003 and has a wealth of magazine editorial experience including serving as executive editor of Natural Health, as well as editor for a range of city, regional and recreational magazines.

"Lola" will be distributed at specifically selected locations where women work, shop and play. Those include cafes, bookstores, salons, day-care centers, health clubs and high-traffic commuting spots. The core circle of the publication's distribution of 45,000 will be in the Boston, Cambridge and Brookline areas along with other key locations inside the Route 128 region. "Lola" will also be available at commuter rail stations throughout the MBTA service area and a few spots outside Route 128.

This is the third local niche publication launched by Boston Globe Media within the last year. "Design New England" is a bi-monthly magazine for high-end home furnishings and design, and "Fashion Boston" is a monthly magazine that serves Boston's exciting fashion market. "We are strategically pursuing new markets and niche segments by developing a portfolio of publications that meet the targeted needs of advertisers and audiences," said Steven Ainsley, publisher of The Boston Globe.
