NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2006--NYTimes.com announced
today that Robert Larson has been named vice president, product
development and management, effective immediately. Mr. Larson will
supervise the site's incorporation of expanded search, interactivity
and new devices such as Times Reader, which allows users to download
an electronic version of the newspaper onto a portable device. He will
also oversee the effort to build out key content areas and distribute
news and information onto mobile platforms. Mr. Larson will report to
Richard Meislin, associate managing editor for Internet publishing,
The New York Times, and work closely with Vivian Schiller, senior vice
president and general manager, NYTimes.com, on strategy, business and
operations.
In making the announcement, Mr. Meislin said, "As NYTimes.com has
evolved and grown, Rob has been one of its great creative forces -- as
he showed so brilliantly in leading our recent site redesign. His new
role will give him even broader opportunities to see the future and
help lead us there."
Ms. Schiller said, "Rob's new position will provide an opportunity
to employ his leadership and unique vision of the Web to grow the site
and our digital business in key content areas, and in this way we will
better meet the widely differing needs and interests of our millions
of online visitors."
Mr. Larson, 37, had been director, product management and
development, NYTimes.com, since May 2004. From 2000 to 2004, he was
director, information architecture, where he led the team that
launched Times News Tracker, the site's e-mail alert service, in 2002.
Previously, he served as education editor where he led the team that
developed and launched The New York Times Learning Network in 1998,
after having served as community developer for The Times's New York
Today site. Before that, he was deputy editor and then editor for The
New York Times on America Online from 1996 to 1997. He began his
career at The Times as a producer for NYTimes.com in 1996. Before
joining The Times, Mr. Larson was a freelance screenwriter.
Mr. Larson received a B.F.A. degree in film and television
production from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in
1992. He received an M.A. degree in instructional technology and media
from Teachers College at Columbia University in 1996.
