NEW YORK, Dec. 3, 2009 – The New York Times announced today the launch of its international news supplement in Le Figaro in France. Le Figaro , which will publish the section in French, joins a global network of newspapers in 27 countries that carry The New York Times international weekly, first introduced in 2002.
The supplement retains the layout and typography of The New York Times and includes news coverage, features, commentary, color photos and graphics covering politics, world affairs, business, culture and style, and social trends. It is prepared in New York by The New York Times News Service and translated into French by Le Figaro.
“We are very happy to welcome Le Figaro to The New York Times international weekly community,” said Gloria Brown Anderson, vice president of international and editorial development, The New York Times News Services division. “We are proud to be able to share The New York Times journalism with Le Figaro readers while offering advertisers a presence in one of the leading publications in Europe.”
“Through the work of our two great dailies, we want to offer a complete view of international news and richer content,” said Francis Morel, general director of Le Figaro. “The launch of our redesigned edition was, for us, an opportunity to bring to our readers additional keys and tools for their understanding of the news. With the publication of the New York Times supplement, Le Figaro is reasserting its position as the No. 1 French national daily.”
Le Figaro also joins the EuroReach advertising network, which offers advertisers pan-European placements in The International Herald Tribune and in The New York Times international weekly sections in five major European markets: France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the U.K. The supplement will reach 400,000 of Le Figaro's readers, extending the overall reach of the ad network to more than 2.1 million readers each week.
Le Figaro was founded in 1826 and is published by The Figaro Group, a subsidiary of Dassault Aviation Group. The Saturday edition includes various magazines including Le Figaro Magazine, Madame Figaro and TV Magazine.
The New York Times News Service, which produces The New York Times international weekly, provides more than 200 articles daily from all sections of The Times to more than 600 news organizations in 50 countries.
