White Mountains Increases Annual Dividend to $8

HAMILTON, Bermuda, Feb 25, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- At its regular meeting held on February 24, 2005, the Board of Directors of White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd. raised the annual dividend to $8.00 per common share, payable quarterly at the rate of $2.00 per share.

At the same meeting, the Board declared a $2.00 per share quarterly dividend, payable in cash on March 23, 2005, to holders of record of Common Shares as of the close of business on March 14, 2005.

Ray Barrette, CEO of White Mountains, said, "After reviewing the Company's businesses, prospects and capital position, the Board increased the annual dividend to $8 from $1 per share. Given the quality and strong performance of our operating businesses and investment portfolio, our shareholders deserve a meaningful dividend from the Company. At the same time, the Company retains tremendous financial flexibility to take advantage of opportunities that are often available in this unpredictable business."
