Update on Rescue Efforts From Massey Energy

JULIAN, W. Va., April 10, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --Massey Energy Company (NYSE: MEE) released the following statement after Governor Manchin announced 29 fatalities at the Upper Big Branch Mine.

"We remained hopeful the four missing miners would have been found alive," said Don Blankenship, Massey Chairman and CEO. "I personally met with many of the families throughout the week and share their grief at this very painful time."

Massey's focus at this time is attending to the families to ensure they have the support they need. We continue to work diligently with state and federal authorities to try to determine the cause of this tragic explosion as quickly as possible.
