Gas and Condensate Discovery in Indonesia
11/28/2001

Amerada Hess Corporation (NYSE: AHC) has participated in the successful testing of the Sungai Kenawang-1 well in the Jambi Merang block in Sumatra, Indonesia. The operator, YPF Indonesia, announced that initial tests had produced 380,000 cubic meters of natural gas per day and 375 barrels of 52 API condensate per day.

The discovery follows an earlier one made in Pulau Gading, also located in the Jambi Merang block, which has been determined by Indonesian authorities be a commercial field. The operator stated that the gas and condensate from both discoveries will be processed and marketed together to fulfill a preliminary contract with Malaysia.

Amerada Hess has a 25% interest in the Jambi Merang block, operator YPF Indonesia has a 25% interest and the Indonesian national oil company Pertamina has a 50% interest.
