Amerada Hess To Acquire Additional Interests Offshore West Africa

Amerada Hess Corporation (NYSE: AHC) has reached agreement to obtain interests in the Gambia PPL Block, the Croix du Sud (AGC) in the jointly administered area between Senegal and Guinea Bissau and the Ntem Block in Cameroon. The Corporation's interests are expected to be 80% in the PPL and Ntem Blocks and 68% in Croix du Sud.
The transaction is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of 2002.
