Robert P. Strode Has Been Named Senior Vice President-Global Exploration and New Ventures

(NYSE:AHC) announced today that Robert P. Strode has been named Senior Vice President-Global
Exploration and New Ventures. Mr. Strode replaces Brian F. Maxted, who has resigned
for personal reasons.
Mr. Strode joined Amerada Hess in April 2000 as Senior Vice President-United States Exploration and Production. In June 2002, he assumed responsibility for Americas and West Africa Development and Production. Prior to joining Amerada Hess, Mr. Strode spent more than 20 years with Arco and its affiliate Vastar Resources. In 1997 he became Senior Vice President-Exploration at Vastar, where he was in charge of all United States exploration, including the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Previously, he served in exploration leadership positions in Alaska and the United Kingdom.
Mr. Strode's successor will be named shortly.
